STORY BEHIND THIS WINE
Domain Karanika was founded in 2004 by Laurens Hartman-Karanika , the son of a Greek mother , and his Dutch wife Annette van Kampen. Their love for the amazing Xinomavro variety led them to Amyndeo in Greece . Amyndeo ( named after the grandfather of Alexander the Great ) is located in the far north west of Greece and has the coolest climate of all wine producing regions of Greece. Laurens and Annette are passionate about maximizing the health and vitality of soils and crops and through this their wines. They are committed to using only completely natural ‘means and tools’ including the use of only bio dynamic compost. The carbon footprint of the estate is low . Harvesting is done by hand and the winery is an exclusively designed three storey gravity flow building which allows the grapes to be selected and de-stemmed on the top floor and by gravity flow to the middle floor for fermentation avoiding the need for pumps.
